Sigur Rós (English pronunciation: /ˈsɪɡər ˈrɒs/, Icelandic: [ˈsɪːɣʏr ˈrouːs]) is an Icelandic post-rock band with melodic, classical, and minimalist elements. The band is known for its ethereal sound and lead singer Jónsi Birgisson's falsetto voice.
The Sigur Rós produce a hypnotic music, with compositions usually over 6 minutes long. All songs are sung in Icelandic, with the exception of the album "()", in which the letters (of songs without name) were written in "Hopelandic" ( "Hope"), a language that is part English, part Icelandic and part the brainchild of vocalist Jón.
